(2 votes - 0 comments - 102 views)
Ahh Durian, the fruit that is banned from public transport and many hotels around Southeast Asia due to its intense smell is one which is either loved or hated by many.

From the lovers: "...to eat Durians is a new sensation worth a voyage to the East to experience. ... as producing a food of the most exquisite flavour it is unsurpassed"

To the haters: ".. its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away."

My reaction? When our workmate brought some sliced, it to work for us to try, it was banished to hang outside a closed window inside a sealed plastic takeaway container inside two plastic bags... and we could still smell it inside. Then when it was brought inside the smell increased in horrendous amplitude... opening the container brought a waft of incredible magnitude and sickly... something smell.

On trying it I believe I may have retched a little bit... and some others in the office had to excuse themselves to the bathroom... there were some who said 'hmmm, not bad, quite nice'.

I can but agree with the comment from Anthony Bourdain "Your breath will smell as if you'd been French-kissing your dead grandmother."

Of course, Brainiac do their usual Oh so very 'scientific' style of experiment. ie. Not scientific in the slightest.

After achieving early underground fame in UK, the band had their commercial breakthrough in mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output as a strike against their record company. Currently, the band is kept alive as a touring outfit only.(WikiPedia)
