Michael Moore Helps the NYPD Distinguish Wallets from Guns
>> ^ulysses1904:
Michael Moore is such a simpleton. He exemplifies everything I hate about television and mass media and socio-political discussions. And no, I'm not a conservative, I used to like Michael Moore. I bought his "The Awful Truth" series on VHS when it came out. But I now see his movies as cheap, manipulative, over-edited 4-panel comic strips, just like so much of modern mass media.

It was a tragic mistake when the police shot and killed Amadou Diallo. From what I understand his English wasn't all that great and was probably confused with what the cops were telling him to do. He pulls out his wallet and the cop nearest to him starts back-pedaling in panic, as he doesn't know what it is. And the cop trips as he is retreating and falls down violently. The next cop reacts instinctively, thinking the retreating cop sees a gun and is in danger. And he starts firing at Amadou. The other cops respond in kind, thinking that "these guys know something I don't, that this guy is a threat" and they start firing too. It all happened very quickly. Then when they find out it's a wallet and they misread the whole thing they are traumatized and shaken. Quite a different picture than that which I've heard described, which is a comic book image of grinning, evil, trigger-happy racist cops, standing over Amadou in a semi-circle, gleefully pumping bullets into his body and reloading and firing more and giving high-fives and smoking cigars and saying to each other "he got what he deserved for not obeying our orders".

But all these details I've just included wouldn't easily fit on a picket sign or be boiled down to a simple-minded protest chant.

Talk about anti-michael moore propogandistic reaction..

You claim to be an ex-fan of moore. I suggest that if anyone else had made this, you'd be laughing. It's not in the same vein as the stuff you claim to dislike about him, it's just good old fashioned humour.

I watched without bias, and i thought it was very funny. You're definitely anti-michael moore whether you admit it or not.

Visualizing Empires Decline
I'm not an expert or anything, but wouldn't the american empire be a series of warts growing off all the other empires - representing land in the americas owned by the various empires displayed here, and eventually splitting off and combining into one, diminishing the other empire's size and creating a new one? And then remaining the same size to our present time?

Or what land masses have america invaded and held onto since formation? I didn't even see some nature of american bubble appear at all, as i was totally expecting. Or was that 'empire' formed before this timeline?

Better yet, let's have an australian aborigine bubble and show a british wart leaving the larger british bubble (via a kick from a warty leg), marching in shackles up to the aborigine one and swallowing it whole. Then the warts that would eventually form america can form, split, attach themselves to the native american bubble and eat it like a plague, slowly taking more and more of the bubble's surface area until, victorious, the last of the native american bubble is devoured, and all the colours mix together to form a new colour which calls itself america.

Kitty Cat Loving Nearly Interrupts Traffic Ticket
Surprised he didn't shoot it. I remember reading a story about a dog that jumped out of a family's car (i don't know why they were stopped but it transpired he'd got the wrong people and they were just a nice happy family with a nice dog) and some cunt of a cop shot it.

Before all the militants clamour up - i don't give a shit. I'm pretty sure i could judge a nutcase attack dog from any other type of dog in the 5 seconds window i had between it jumping out and crossing the ground to me before it became too late to actually defend myself. Given the choice between killing one innocent dog and taking 5 seconds of a vague risk of being bitten, i take the risk and i'd want my police force populated by same. This is an offtopic disclaimer!!! Pre-emptive reply to the gunfreak militant psychopaths that we have on the sift!!! Sorry to drift offtopic!!!

Zero Punctuation: Dragon Age: Origins
Milkman dan is exactly right. It's not quite as free a baldur's gate, but baldur's gate was by no means a fully open world either. It's easier to crank out maps and locations in a BG style environment hence easier to create a game and make good profit from the work you put in.

Have we had a PERFECT reincarnation of BG using modern day gaming standards? Not yet, but it was close. Maybe it's a holy grail we're looking for, all us die hard BG fans.

I will however admit that the side quests and storyline in BG were so incredibly involved and engorging. Dragon age did not drag me in as much. I was absolutely infatuated with Leliana's accent and when i realised i could get my sexy redhead elf girl to get it on with the sexy orlaisian bard temptress, i was obsessed with getting that to happen.

I don't think that counts, though. I believe it was Durlag's Tower that i always remember most of all from any game, ever. The story and depth of that place was immense, you were slowly taken through the dwarf's footsteps and his eventual decline into insanity which led him to kill all his loved ones. That storyline really blew my socks off, and it didn't need lesbian sex or a hugely attractive exotic accent to do it.

Alright, Dragon Age isn't QUITE our new baldur's gate, but it's been the best contender by miles and miles. Maybe if this one does so well and we show our appreciation for the display of quality in areas that we most wanted it, they'll be able to improve on it and give us more. And maybe then we'll have our new baldur's gate.

Curb is by far the funniest comedy on tv at the moment. I feel sorry for all the fans of boil-in-the-bag, insert-joke-here comedy fans that can't understand it. I'm sure another rerun of friends will be on a channel soon.

Jacob, Get Off The Xbox 360
Yep can't agree more, this does nothing but piss me off. Why would someone do this to someone else? It makes no sense. I was a very, very trusting, nice, polite and kind child. Being treated like this by people really fucked my life up - not only being emotionally and sometimes physically abused by my sibling but also eventually by a step parent. It turned me from an incredibly intelligent and gifted child into someone who suffers severely from cynicism, mistrust, apathy towards life and eventually severe bouts of depression.

I'm not saying that's what's happening here, nor that it's indicative of anything. I'm saying this sort of behaviour CAN ruin a large portion of a person's life, it absolutely disgusts me.

It's so unfair and so unnecessary, and the kid is so upset and so trusting... it reminds me so much of things that were done to me and makes me want to weep. That's why i'm so judgemental of it. It's too close to the nerve for me, and i know what this sort of shit can do to someone.

I remember when i was 7 or 8, i had a sister who was around 15 or 16. One day she was in my front garden talking to her friends and a few of mine. I went outside to join in. As soon as i got into the garden i heard her talking about how strong she was in that childish way. To prove it, as soon as i got close, she offered me a hug, then when i walked into it thinking "how lucky i am to have a sunny day, good friends, and a nice sister", she grabbed me around the neck and literally choked me. I wasn't even crying because i couldn't breath at all. I was screaming as best i could for her to let go, struggling, i couldn't even draw in a single breath so all my calls for help were limited by the breath that i had in my lungs to begin with.

She threw me to the floor and burst out laughing at me, calling me a girl and a baby and all the rest. In front of my friends. For those 30 seconds, i was scared for my life and it seemed like it went on for hours. Even recanting this story has made me cry for the last 10 minutes. I cry because i remember how innocent i was, how trusting i was, how fascinated by everything i was, how easily things came to me..... and the person i became now because of evil shits like this.

But that was many many years and a catalogue of abuse, and this is just a video of a twattish prank. However i'll leave it, because i feel better for writing it, and maybe in a roundabout way it'll make an impact on someone else.

Hail Mary - Pomplamoose
I vote for more honesty in these video titles/descriptions in the recent spam of music videos from this particular group.

Video title like "Watch this to get a boner over the plain girl"
And descriptions such as "I have a nerd crush on this stunningly bland girl in the top right section of the screen"

I think they turn up for recordings with a hazy idea and it goes like this:

So what are we doin today?
Dunno, just gonna jam a little, edit into something usable.
Ok then i'll just sing a computer generated set of lyrics in the little childlike cutesy voice i always use, right?
Right.

-- 5 mins later --

Well there's another hit! See you tomorrow! I've got a date with some internet guy who watched one of our videos and thinks i can't do any better because i'm not conventionally 'hot' but more tending towards 'cute' in a nerdy way. Cya!

The Top 50 Worst Videogame Voice Acting Moments
There's one much, much, much worse than this which i can recall. Problem is i can't remember the name of the game. All i remember was it looked a little bit like a baldur's gate 1 or 2 clone and as i love those games i thought i'd give it a try.

The opening was a little video giving some backstory, it was a little girl and her grandpa talking.

Guy in a gruff, husky voice "Some random shit about having to go and do something which may mean i never return!"

THE SAME GUY IN A FUCKING FALSETTO THAT WAS SO OBVIOUS AND FAKE SOUNDING I, FOR A MINUTE, THOUGHT IT WAS A PARODY OR JOKE "Oh no grandpa!"

It really was as bad as you can possibly imagine it. Worse, in fact. It was like listening to someone playing with dolls and slightly altering their voice when doing the doll dialogue. God i wish i could remember the name. I wish i'd kept it in fact, that's worth £20. I returned it

Digital forensics shows Oswald photo was not faked
Just.... get a guy in a similar position at different times of the day and see where the fucking shadows fall.

People get so confused so easily about this stuff. He's just using a computer to do it. They could still do it yourself, if they didn't have computers.

But my comment is nothing to do with whether or not the conspiracy is true, i don't know/care, i wasn't even aware there was one regarding this photo, i'm not from your neck of the woods

Discovery Channel - The World Is Just Awesome (Boomdeyada 2)
>> ^StukaFox:
>> ^Samaelsmith:
Did that guy seriously just tackle a swordfish from the air?!

Yes. And then he fucked it. He fucked it for 18 straight hours on a single breath. Then when he was done, he kissed it gently, whispering, "I love you, but I must do this . . ." and kicked the fish straight out of the ocean and into whirling blades of the helicopter above. The once-great ocean predator was instantly shredded into 16,000 perfectly-sized sashimi slices, which this man then ate as a post-coital meal. Turning to the camera, he sang:

"I love to fuck a fish -- boombeyatta boombeyatta!"

Thus, Chuck Norris made his very last appearance in any Discovery Channel production ever.

He ate his own sperm.
